Mason McGovern and Declan Troy each tallied two goals for NJ to lead the scoring effort, while Maxwell Comunale, Thomas Mierkiewicz, Luke Moye, and Ryan Chang each found the back of the net once. Matthew McBride led the team with two assists, and three other players added helpers to round out a well-distributed offensive performance.

New Jersey’s defense stepped up in key moments and got a strong showing in net with the goalie duo of Graydon Dziadzio and Jake Jones combining for seven saves to help stifle the CT offense.

Tied 1-1 after the first quarter following goals from NJ’s Troy and CT’s Kwok, New Jersey jumped in front with three goals in the second quarter to Connecticut’s one. That second-period push was thanks to goals from NJ’s McGovern, Troy, and Comunale. Carre was the lone goal scorer for CT in the second quarter.

Connecticut Ousts Maryland Despite Late Comeback Effort To Claim Class of 2028 Championship Title At 2025 National All Star Games

Edgewood, Md. - Though Maryland got out to an early lead and made a final stand in the fourth quarter, Connecticut’s efforts throughout the entire competition - especially in the second and third quarters - allowed them to secure a narrow 8-7 win in the class of 2028 championship game at the 2025 National All Star Games at the Copperplex complex.

Grey Wildman led the way offensively for Connecticut with a hat trick, while Jake Gashi added two goals. Contributions from Hunter Hanford, Austin Tuttle, and Thomas Regan rounded out the scoring for CT while five different players notched assists. On the Maryland side, Nash Parker and Connor Sullivan each tallied two goals, and Aiden Fournier, Caleb Kelly, and Alonzo Wallace, notched one goal apiece.

Connecticut outshot Maryland by a 19-15 margin and capitalized on Maryland’s seven turnovers. The teams were nearly even in ground balls (CT 13, MD 14) and faceoffs (CT 7-15, MD 8-15), but the defensive pressure from Connecticut - reflected in five caused turnovers - proved to be a key of the game.

Maryland propelled to an early advantage with four different performers netting goals to Connecticut’s two. Parker, Sullivan, Kelly, and Wallace each scored for MD in the first quarter while Tuttle and Gashi bagged goals for CT.

Connecticut held Maryland scoreless for the next two quarters. CT knotted the score at four apiece in the second period with goals from Wildman and Gashi while holding. Out of the halftime break, Connecticut pulled away with three goals in just the third period while allowing none to Maryland. Regan got the first goal out of the intermission and Wildman followed with two scores in the third quarter to complete his hat trick.

Maryland’s fourth quarter comeback bid was powered by goals from Parker, Sullivan, and Fournier, but an additional score from CT’s Hanford allowed the winning side to keep an edge and ultimately claim the championship title for the class of 2028.
