Americans Use Early Surge To Narrowly Defeat Nationals In 6th Annual Senior All-Star Game

 

Stony Brook, NY - In the 6th annual Senior All-Star Game, the Americans built an early advantage through efficient offense and impressive play on the draw to help hold off a late push from the Nationals and earn an 18-16 victory at LaValle Stadium in Stony Brook, New York.

 

The Americans opened the game with six first-quarter goals while limiting the Nationals to three, taking a 6-3 lead into the second quarter. Co-MVP Hunter Metz delivered three of the Americans’ six goals in the opening quarter. Both teams found their rhythm offensively in the second, each scoring four times, giving the Americans a 10-7 halftime advantage. The Americans continued to control the pace in the third quarter, outscoring the Nationals 6-3 to extend their lead to 16-10 before the Nationals closed the game with a six-goal fourth quarter. Despite the late surge, the Americans added two goals in the final frame to secure the win.

Hunter Metz, Noah Han, and Tuck Gilbane each recorded hat tricks for the Americans, while Wyatt Stamnes, Ty Curry, and Brian McCaffery added two goals apiece. Daniel Riely, Griffin Cepiel, and Josh Logan each found the back of the net once. Assists were credited to John Balsamo, Josh Logan, Noah Han, Ty Curry, Hunter Metz, and Wyatt Stamnes, with Curry and Balsamo recording two helpers.

 

Timmy Plunkett led the Nationals with five goals, while Bennett Matthews and Nick Testa each finished with three. Lucas Garcia added two goals, Ross Jacobsen scored twice, and Ethan Bramoff found the back of the net once. Testa led the Nationals with four assists, Plunkett added two, and Garcia, Joe Ligas, and Matthews each contributed one helper.

“I was just excited to be out here,” said co-MVP Ciaran Sweeney after an impeccable 16-for-18 day at the X. “It was awesome to be called out here and compete against some of the best guys in the country.”

Talking postgame, Hunter Metz mentioned others that explained the thrill that comes with playing in this high-level competition: “They’ve all told us how fun it is to come play in this game, and we were just so excited when we got the call to come play in this game. We were fired up.”

The Americans finished with advantages in shots (38-34), ground balls (44-36), and faceoffs, winning 27-of-37 draws. Brian McCaffery won 11-of-19 faceoffs, while Ciaran Sweeney controlled 16-of-18 opportunities. Blake O'Callaghan made two saves and Hunter Mezzatesta added seven for the Americans. Kieran Walsh stopped eight shots and Thomas Ploszay recorded three saves for the Nationals. The Nationals forced 16 caused turnovers while the Americans recorded 12, and the Americans committed 24 turnovers compared to 15 by the Nationals.

The 2026 Senior All Star Game brought together the top talent from the nation's 2026 senior class. The event showcased the skill, competitiveness, and dedication that defines the next generation of men's lacrosse players. The country's top high school athletes demonstrated the results of their hard work while continuing the tradition of representing the sport of lacrosse at the highest level.
